LA Times Business Article References Woodland Hills ‘All Green Things’ Shop
Looks like green business networking events are en vogue. Check out the LA Times article that ran yesterday, featuring Woodland Hills business woman Tanya Peels:
For Tanya Peel, who opened her All Things Green shop in Woodland Hills in April to sell eco-friendly pet food, jewelry and other items, hosting a local event for the networking group Green Drinks last week was part of her plan to build a grass-roots network in her community. She wants to find environmentally friendly businesses she can work with and to which she can refer her customers.
“It’s kind of going beyond strictly the quest for profits,” Peel said.
Looks like the LA Times flubbed the name of Peel’s shop, as it’s actually “All Green Things.” Green networking is definitely a great way to meet good business people with a great sense of integrity and environmental awareness. I haven’t been to All Green Tings yet but hopefully I can swing by and check it out soon. To learn more about the Green Drinks group and eco-friendly business networking in Woodland Hills, I suggest you visit their website. That page gives contact info for Peel and info on how to get involved. Also, check out All Green Things at 5321 Topanga Canyon Blvd. They also have a great website with plenty of eco friendly products. Cool stuff.

Media, police change name of hit-and-run/chase suspect
In previous articles he was referred to as Hector Vidal, but now he is Kelly Keeler.
Update: 10/1/09 – I called the LAPD Media Relations office and they insist that Kelly Keeler is correct and that Hector Vidal was incorrectly reported initially.

Woodland Hills Whole Foods Wednesday Hot Bar/Salad Bar Special thru 11/11
As heard in store and on their twitter account – “Every Wednesday from 9/23-11/11 our salad bar and hot bar are only $5.99. Yes, $5.99″
This applies to the Woodland Hills Whole Foods located at the corner of Ventura Blvd and Canoga Ave. I have a feeling their business has been hurting since Trade Joe’s and Henry’s moved into the area. More on those in a nother post!

More details about victim and car chase incident on Ventura Blvd
The Daily New additionally reports, with Fox11 as their source, “The pedestrian was a man in his 60s, whose identity was withheld while authorities tried to notify his family.”
Also, “About two miles west on Ventura Boulevard, the Cadillac rear-ended an SUV with four people inside, then came to a stop against a chain-link fence next to the 101 freeway. He refused to get out of the Cadillac for about two hours, until a SWAT team arrived and used a stun gun to bring him into custody.”

Unidentified pedestrian killed in front of Jerry’s Deli during police chase
Well, it seems according to this article in the Daily News that a pedestrian was hit and killed by a guy who refused to stop for the CHP on Saturday night. At this time there’s not much more in the way of detail, but the article is worth a read. I often get take-out from Jerry’s Deli (their Cobb Salad is delightful) so thankfully I wasn’t in the wrong place at the wrong time! I’ll post more details on the victim or driver if they become available.
Update: Victim Identified as Dean Greenwalt of Woodland Hills

Veterans Job Fair At Warner Center Marriott
Well, according to the Ventura County Star, a veterans job fair aptly named “Honor a Hero” will be held at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills on October 29th. Their article is geared more to veterans that live in Ventura County, but I’m fairly certain all local veterans are welcome to attend. I’ll be sending out an e-mail to the event coordinator to find out if there are any pertinent details San Fernando Valley vets should know, such as transportation options and a list of Employers who might be at the fair.
Wow, this feels like a fairly serious PSA that I’ve made. Good luck to all of our local veterans on your job hunt!
