What happened to the Shell on the corner of Serrania and Ventura?
I noticed this a few weeks ago. The Shell station on the corner of Serrania and Ventura (20900 Ventura Blvd) is boarded up. This station was strange in that gas was always 10 to 20 cents more expensive per gallon than the 76 (recently rebranded from Chevron) across the street. Also, the prices in the convenience store were jacked up. That being said, they did have a service station and I had several flat tires fixed there over the years for very reasonable prices. So I have mixed feelings about its demise. But does anyone know what’s going on with it? Will it reopen under a different label?
Interestingly, when I was taking the pictures of the station, one of the guys at the 76 across the street – Abtar – (20905 Ventura Blvd) flagged me over. I’ve actually been a customer of the 76 and its car wash for years, very friendly people. Anyways, Abtar asked if I knew anything about what was going on with the Shell station and I asked him the same thing. Nobody knows. Please post a comment if you know.
On the plus side, I asked him if he could hook up any specials for my readers, and he pointed me to the coupons on MoneyMailer.com – see the link below.

Since that Shell station corner has been my entry into my neighborhood for over 30 years I’m surprised none of us know what’s going on. I do know that some of the biggest pigeons I have ever seen have come back to my favorite power pole sitting in my fabulous view of our valley. Serrania and Ventura Blvd. have been the pigeon corner of the world up to about 3 years ago when I suspect they were demonically thinned. All birds are welcome in “my view”. A whole under, or should I say over world in my midst. Girard, do keep us informed…I kind of feel it will be a slurp and burp gas station, fully automated, no friendly folk.
You know, that’s a fascinating observation. I do remember all the pigeons. Are they gone? Spooky.
