A Few Pictures From Future Site of Westfield’s The Village
I figured I’d take a few pictures of the structures still left at the eventual site of Westfield’s “The Village” complex. One of the pictures leaves me wondering and guessing if the FedEx Office A/K/A Kinkos was once a bank. I’d like to know the story of why so many valley banks – especially former Washington Mutuals – gave these fascinating murals on them. Most of them seem to depict early valley settlers and Native Americans. While there aren’t too many of these in Woodland Hills that I know of, as you head east there are many. A quick google search on this produces nothing, but it’d be a shame when they tear down the FedeX Office to lose the mural and quasi-iconic building.

FedEx/Kinkos was indeed a bank (actually, a couple of them) but was originally a Disco! Back in the 80s, Woodland Hills was filled with these places. The spot in question was a “Flannigan’s Big Daddy’s”, and next to it was “Reuben’s Summerhouse”.
Over on Canoga, where BJ’s is (was? I never go there), was the infamous Red Onion, and Ventura and Corbin was home to Tennessee Gin & Cotton.
God it’s hard to believe there was actually night life (albeit lousy) in Woodland Hills at one time!
Is “The Village” project still progressing? i have not seen anything about it lately. I’m in favor of it as, when built up, especially with the planned residential buildings, it adds more of a condensed city-feeling, as opposed to the never-ending suburbia.
