Paid a Quick Visit to the Curry Up Cafe
In reference to my post earlier about the Dean Greenwalt roadside memorial Donna M sent me this Direct Message on Twitter:
Thank you Girard for sending these pictures which are placed where Dean died in the arms of the Asian couple who have restaurant there.
I hadn’t heard this bit of information about the story, so it prompted me to drop in to the Curry Up Cafe this afternoon to say hello. I spoke to Chris (who I suspect is one end of the couple that Donna mentioned, as there was a nice young lady there who seemed to jointly run the restaurant with Chis) and he told me a little about that night and what he saw. He described essentially what we’ve all heard before about what happened, and not wanting to get too much into the tragic details of that day, I asked Chris a little bit about their restaurant.
He quickly offered me a sample of their delicious Japanese Curry which according to their menu is a signature dish. It was very good. Definitely an interest restaurant that really brings the term ‘fusion’ to the next level, as they offer a wide variety of Curries, Thai, Korean, and japanese dishes, noodles, a big assortment of ‘Asian Fusion tacos, and they are now even offering ‘ripper’ Asian themed hot dogs.
I probably would have tried one of their dishes but I had just eaten dinner at Maria’s Italian Kitchen on Mulholland. That being said, I assured Chris I’d stop back in soon and pick up dinner one day and write about it on the blog.
This is definitely the kind of local place that we should be supporting and it’s nice to see two young entrepreneurs with the courage to put forth an innovative menu to keep things interesting. If any of you have tried the place out hit me up with an e-mail or better yet post a comment on this entry.
Here’s their website and also I scanned their menu into a PDF for your viewing pleasure: Curry Up Cafe Menu (PDF)
Check out the YouTube video above where Chris talks about and prepares some Japanese curry.

El Camino Real Spanks Birmingham 47-24, Rashon Harper Scores 6 Touchdowns
LA Times’ Eric Sondheimer writes:
With six consecutive victories and a double-wing attack that no one is stopping, Woodland Hills El Camino Real is ready to make an impact in the West Valley League.
The Conquistadores sent a message Friday night with their 47-24 victory over Birmingham in which Rashon Harper scored six touchdowns. It was El Camino Real’s first victory over Birmingham since 1999.
El Camino Real attempted just one pass the entire game. That’s what its run-oriented attack is doing to opposing teams.
“I’m pleased how we played,” Coach Kevin Williams said. “We ran the ball real well.”
Next up is a homecoming game against Granada Hills. The alumni are pretty happy these days.
I’m sure they are!
