LADWP Reminds Us To “Fall Back” Tonight At 2:00am!

From LADWP:

LADWP Reminder: Daylight Savings Time

Don’t Forget To Reset Sprinkler Timers!

LOS ANGELES- After a night of Halloween ghosts and goblins, daylight savings time will end at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) reminds customers to turn clocks back and reset lighting timers, programmable thermostats and sprinkler timers.

The City of Los Angeles is currently under mandatory water conservation, which restricts outdoor watering with sprinklers to Mondays and Thursdays only, and all outdoor watering to times before 9:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m.  Customers should note the change in time and adjust their sprinkler timers accordingly.

LADWP encourages customers to reset lighting timers to turn on only after daylight hours and to remain lit only as long as is necessary. Energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs are recommended for installation wherever possible.

The time change is a valuable opportunity for LADWP customers to review energy and water routines at home and in the workplace to seek out ways to conserve. Effective conservation can reduce utility bills and result in monetary savings for customers: save water, save power, save money. For tips on easy ways to conserve, and information on the Department’s many water and energy conservation programs and incentives, please call 1-800-DIAL-DWP or visit www.ladwp.com.

Tried The Signature Japanese Curry and Chicken Cutlet Dish at Curry Up Cafe

Wow, so last Wednesday while it was frigidly cold and windy out I wanted to go check out some good food in a nice warm restaurant!  So, I headed over to Curry Up Cafe for a nice bite to eat.

After looking over the menu I figured I’d better give their signature Japanese Curry (served ‘homestyle’ with potatoes and carrots) a shot.  They have a dish  that pairs up that curry with a breaded chicken cutlet, so that was my selection.  I decided to be reckless and get it spicy and roll the dice at the chance of it being insanely hot.  I also got one of their tacos – the Hawaiian Kalua Pork Taco – because I wanted to check them out, too.

First, I must say I’m a pork lover.  Because of this, I will never make it to paradise with Muhammed Atta.  Okay,  tasteless joke.  I must say that the taco was delicious – I slathered it up with some hot sauce too – so it was both explosive and delicious.

Now, for the curry and chicken cutlet.  AWESOME.  It’s such a simple dish, but it’s great.  Especially when prepared spicy.  Bite after bite was amazing.  The crunchy texture of the breading on the chicken breast, the curry infused zing of the sauce, the sweetness of some raisins they provide at the table to mix in.  It was great.  They had a little video montage of their dishes playing on a monitor in the restaurant, and I saw many interesting things to try next time.

Keep up the good work, Chris!

Woodland Hills Couple Sets Up Free Haunted House Beginning at 7pm Tonight

Written by Girard on October 31, 2009 - 0 Comments
Categories: In The News

Well here’s something nearby tonight that might be worth 15 minutes of your time to check out, although I’m guessing there will be waits.  The LA Times writes:

With Halloween celebrations so often a bath of blood and guts these days, Matt Ford and Lori Merkle Ford have organized a viscera-free, retro-flavored display and show at their Woodland Hills house. Ford, an Emmy-winning lighting designer whose credits include Academy Award shows, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “Last Comic Standing,” and Merkle Ford, a lyric soprano and voice-over actress, spent the last month setting their scene. Hologram-type effects and computer-controlled moving figures follow an original score with narration by voice-over actor Corey Burton, who also has narrated a Halloween scene for Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion.

Apparitions appear in windows, characters rise from tombstones and other effects animate the yard and house, but Ford said the 11-minute show is really driven by the story: A 1930 actress marries a shady screenwriter whose previous wife and daughter died under suspicious circumstances. On Halloween night, the dead return as ghosts, and then . . .

You’ll have to see the show to find out. It will repeat every 15 minutes from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saltillo Street, which is closed off between Canoga Avenue and Rios Street.

Please visit the article for more details and additional quotes from the couple.  See some pictures here. I’m not exactly sure if this is from last year, but it looks pretty awesome.  Pretty cool that  they’ve got the whole street closed off for this thing!

Murdered Porn Star Interview From YouTube

This video is surprisingly humanizing.  This is the same video that is used in portions of the MyFoxLA report. This video has plenty of profanity and is not safe for work or the ears of infants or small dogs.

Porn Star Stabbing Victim Damien Michaels Much More Popular In Death Than In Life

Google Trends This Morning, Damien Michaels

Damien Michaels: Volcanic

Damien Michaels: Volcanic

In doing some digging this morning on this story, I came across some interesting finds in Google.  That being that Damien Michaels was the #1 search term at the moment.  There have probably been more searches for this guys name in the last few hours than in his entire life.  Is that mean?

Oh, and when asked to confirm or disconfirm that Damien Michaels had ever won an American Music Award, it replied, “Uh, no” – as the only results returned were that of the crack-fueled ramblings of his special lady friend.

"Uh, no, Mr. Girard."

Degenerate Porn Star Stabbed to Death at Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills

Written by Girard on October 31, 2009 - 31 Comments
Categories: Crime, In The News

On Tuesday a 53 year old on-again-off-again “porn star” Damien Michaels (real name Michael Conoscenti) was found dead apparently of multiple stab wounds in a room at the Comfort Inn at 20157 Ventura Blvd.  I had begun hearing about this story on Friday, but held off on publishing it as LA Weekly was the only site carrying it and I don’t consider them a reliable source for homicide news.  Plus, the only thing in their posts identifying the victim were the comments added by a clearly rambling drug addicted degenerate chick who must be the female companion of Consoscenti’s mentioned in the Fox 11 News video.

I was pretty surprised that this hadn’t been covered at all in the real media, which is why I was skeptical that it was totally a hoax.  Fox 11 News wrote:

Woodland Hills (myFOXla.com) – There was a lot of mystery surrounding an early morning murder in Woodland Hills earlier this week. It happened right across from Taft High School on Ventura Boulevard.

Investigators did not release the victim’s name and there was nothing in the news.

Chris Blatchford has the bizarre story of a porn actor’s death in this video report.

I was able to talk to a friend of mine who works in the adult movie business and get his take on this Damien Michaels character.  He tells me:

Damien Michaels was a completely worthless degenerate scumbag and a hustler.  The guy has been addicted to crystal meth since he was about four years old, and was really never even slightly successful as either a porn star, or as a pimp.  He was so drug riddled that he had lost most of his teeth, and I’ve heard a story once from some girl that was having lunch with him that one of his teeth fell out in his hamburger.

This guy was a total loser, and you can bet he was probably killed by one of his drug addicted friends.

The incoherent ramblings of a friend of the stabbing victim were posted on the two articles linked to at the end of this post (Topix/LA Weekly), and included in this message after the jump.
