Breakfast at the White Harte in Woodland Hills
I set myself up with an early morning project last Saturday of photographing all of the Woodland Hills marijuana stores that I could find. That kind of hard work always generates some hunger for a delicious breakfast. I remembered seeing a sign on the White Harte’s (22456 Ventura Blvd) exterior that they were now serving breakfast daily, so I figured I’d stop by.
The White Harte is of course an English pub, so the menu is littered with delicious and undoubtedly joyously artery clogging culinary delights like bangers and “Irish bacon rashers.” I must confess I don’t even know what rashers are but perhaps I will try that next time after I check out their Wikipedia entry.
I decided to keep it simple and got the “Ham and Scrambled Eggs” which consisted of “3 Scrambled Eggs, smoked ham with shredded cheddar, fresh salsa and potatoes.” They were actually quite delicious. Also what was best about the experience was eating outside, street side on Ventura Blvd. It’s nice to have a sidewalk-type breakfast every now and again, and the White Harte I think is a good destination for it.
Try it out!

Woodland Hills Man Shows Son How to Use Gunpowder to Blow Off Own Finger
Um, okay well I hope whoever this happened to wasn’t one of my readers. KTLA writes:
WOODLAND HILLS — A man attempting to demonstrate the dangers of gunpowder to his son blew off one of his fingers in a blast that also injured the boy, authorities said.
At first, the explosion in the 22900 block of Calvert Street in Woodland Hills was thought to be a shooting, said Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Tom Sammartano.
But, it was a father-son lesson gone wrong.
The father somehow ignited the gunpowder while trying to demonstrate its dangers just before 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Arriving police and firefighters found a window in the home blown out, and a bomb squad was called in to check for any further dangers.
Investigators say the son suffered minor face injuries and possible loss of hearing. The father lost a finger in the blast.
Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.
I don’t have any kids (that I know of, knock on wood), but in my opinion the best way to keep your kid safe from the dangers of gunpowder is NOT TO HAVE ANY DAMN GUNPOWDER IN YOUR HOUSE. Ya think?

Le Bon Bakery Closes Its Doors
A reader and friend to the blog writes in:
FYI the Le Bon Bakery closed. It’s kinda sad, but since the real french baker left a few months ago, it hasn’t been the same from when I remember.
I only popped in on Le Bon once or twice for some very basic cookies and such. I had read on sites like Yelp that when it was sold last year it pretty much went right in the toilet.
UPDATE: Here is a picture of their farewell note.

LA Times Taking Notice – “The Battle of Woodland Hills” This Friday!
In the battle of Woodland Hills high school football bragging rights nothing so big has happened in almost 20 years. LA Times sports writer Eric Sondheimer has taken notice with a blog entry and a full detailed article on Friday’s matchup between Taft and El Camino Real. He writes:
In Woodland Hills, the two public high schools, Taft and El Camino Real, have each won national academic decathlon titles. But in sports, the similarities have been few and far between.
Taft has been a football and basketball powerhouse. El Camino Real has won five City championships in baseball and won a state title in boys soccer.
But something unusual is happening in football. El Camino Real is the team that comes into the battle of Woodland Hills on Friday night unbeaten. The Conquistadores are 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the West Valley League. Taft is 4-3 and 2-0. El Camino Real hasn’t beaten the Toreadors in a football game since 1991. The Conquistadores get to host Taft in a 7 o’clock showdown for first place in the West Valley League.
“It’s probably going to be the biggest game we’ve had with El Camino in the last 20 years,” Taft Coach Matt Kerstetter said.
This is definitely going to be interesting. The article also points out:
Taft, however, has played a much stronger schedule than the Conquistadores, having lost to Gardena Serra, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Mission Hills Alemany, three schools that have been ranked in the top 25 by The Times. El Camino Real’s best win came in the season opener against Newhall Hart.
The game is being played at ECR and adult admission is $7.00.
