Tread Lightly In Woodland Hills, the Po Po is Out Today
In my morning drive around Woodland Hills, I noticed multiple people being pulled over by LAPD at the corner of Ventura and Topanga Canyon, as well as another on Erwin and Variel. Looks like our sleepy hollow is being targeted by the LAPD for some traffic enforcement today.

Hills of Woodland’s One Month Anniversary!
Today marks the one month anniversary of the site and I think we’re off to a good start. I really appreciate everyone’s participation – your comments being posted, e-mailed tips, etc. are really a big part of what will ultimately make this blog as good as it can be. I also really would like local business owners and community members to e-mail me to keep me abreast of any news or events you may have, new products and services, etc. etc.
Remember to tell a friend or neighbor about the site, and also the “Share This” link under a story is a quick and easy way to e-mail it to a friend or even post it on your Facebook page (a million other places).
There are close to 80,000 people in Woodland Hills and I will not rest until each one of them is chronically and dysfunctionally addicted to reading this site every day.
You can always e-mail me at contact@hillsofwoodland.com.

Tanya Peel’s 350.org Event is Tomorrow!
I’m sure there is still time to RSVP, you’ll be needed from 3pm to 5pm tomorrow in Warner Ranch Park. I have a project I’m working on tomorrow so I won’t be there, plus I’m still holding out that we’ll discover a planet that is made half of oil and half of landfill and that we can avoid this whole ’saving the environment’ thing. Ok, maybe I’m being facetious. See Tanya’s blog for more details. The above photo was shamelessly pulled from Tanya’s All Green Things Blog. Please don’t sick any lawyers on me.

Maui Grilled Chicken’s Signature Dish is Quite Delicious
As promised earlier this week, I dropped by Woodland Hills’ newest eating establishment Maui Grilled Chicken for a meal this afternoon. Owner Julian recommended that I try their #1 – the eponymously named Maui Grilled Chicken. Once ordered chef Yero went to work preparing the dish. All of the food here is prepared to order, so be prepared to wait a few minutes to be served, or call ahead if it’s for take-out.
Once the food arrived you can immediately tell – if you couldn’t from the menu – that Maui Grilled Chicken’s food definitely has a Persian flair as the meat is cooked on skewers (like the Persian barg dish) and is served with humus, and jasmine rice, etc. However, I think the similarity there is a bit superficial because the marinated chicken served here was probably the most tender and succulent I’ve ever had – much more so than even at a very good Persian restaurant like Darband in Tarzana. Maui Grilled Chicken uses no oil, fats, etc. and cooks the chicken in its own natural juices and it really shows as the food is astoundingly light and healthy tasting. Even the rice tasted light and healthy, the humus was excellently seasoned, and the side salad was delicious.
Overall, Maui Grilled Chicken is a definite winner. I’d recommend trying the #1 and you’ll see what I mean about how amazing tender and well seasoned the chicken is.
Please also note if you want to stop by this week, you should bring cash as it’s going to be a few more days until they have their credit card processing machine set up. MGC is a new restaurant and they are still getting things up to speed. I’m also told that their website MauiGrilledChicken.com should be up next week.

Parolee Carted Away But Suspicious Materials Not a Bomb
Well, the big bomb scare in Woodland Hills earlier today turns out to have been nothing too exciting. KCAL9 writes (also, see the video on their site):
LAPD officers said law enforcement officials were paying a routine visit to a parolee at around 6 a.m. in the 22000 block of Avenida Morelos when they made the discovery.
Detectives were unable to say what the suspicious device looked like, but said that it was tested and determined to not be an explosive.
Sadly for the parolee all the activity probably violated him right back to the pokey, as Daily News writes:
They also refused to identify the parolee, who was taken into custody while they checked whether he was complying with the conditions of his release.
