Taft Football Program About To Get Burned Due To Bercovici Shenanigan
Well, as previously reported, Taft played hard and fast with the City Section transfer rules this season, and got burned.
LA Times’ Eric Sondheimer writes:
Woodland Hills Taft’s football program is facing City Section punishment for allowing ineligible transfer quarterback Michael Bercovici to participate in the program in violation of rules, City Section assistant commissioner John Aguirre said today.
Aguirre has asked Taft administrators to write up an incident report, which will be forwarded to the City Section rules committee for possible disciplinary action.
Bercovici was declared ineligible last month by City Section Commissioner Barbara Fiege after transferring from Westlake, making him ineligible to participate in practice or games. But Bercovici allegedly has been at games on the sideline, participating with the team.
At this point, Taft’s disregard for the rules is pretty staggering. And it’s also sort of hypocritical considering the fracas that was made last week by Taft’s Koach Kerstetter over an official’s ignorance of a tripping rule.
I wonder where the next stop is for Bercovici?

You might want to look into your allegations, there is no accuracy in much of what you’re printing. Bercovivi isnt going anywhere, and there was no disregard for the rules. Perhaps you could read the rulebook and discuss this with Tafts Athletic Director and Football coach and maybe see what the fuss was all about. There is no punishment or disciplinary action waiting to happen, just a typical blog. You’re looking for a story where there is none.
Taft Alum, Bercovici transferred to Taft to play. Now that this year is coming to a close and he’s doomed regardless, sure he’ll probably stay. But, do you think Bercovici would have transferred to Taft had be known he wouldn’t be playing, and that all of this drama would be unfolding? Of course not, don’t delude yourself. He left Westlake because he wasn’t going to be the starter. It’s obvious to everyone, including City Section, which is why he was declared ineligible and why City Section is possibly going to penalize Taft.
Look, there’s not going to be much teeth to whatever happens anyways, so just relax. These allegations are coming from City Section, being printed in the LA Times, and Daily News. Nothing to do with me.
Did he lose his appeal which was set for Nov. 12th? If he is ineligible does he miss out on this season but is able to play next year? Does his ineligibility last for a calendar year, or will he be able to participate in spring training and summer practice? If you are ineligible for a year because City Section sees it as “athletically motivated” does that mean it’s okay to play after a year even if the move is “athletically motivated”? Does the family still have to live in Taft district or now can they move home? It’s a tough rule. Obviously there are situations where two great players share the same position. Shouldn’t the second best who would be a starter elsewhere get a chance to play or is it truly by the area you live in. Chatsworth baseball has a lot of City Championships won by kids from all over the Valley who want to pay for a winner.
WH Sports Fan, I will try to get you an update on what’s up with Bercovici. I’m guessing if he’s done for the year, at this point he will just stay at Taft and play next year. I’ll let you know what I find out.
