YouBet.com in Warner Center

YouBet.com in Warner Center

I’ve driven by the YouBet.com offices in Warner Center on De Soto Avenue a million times but I was never exactly sure what they did.  Well, besides the obvious online gambling connotation.  This week the company was acquired for a staggering $126.8 million by horse racing giant Churchill Downs, Inc.  Who knew this quiet company in Warner Center had such a bustling operation!

The Chicago Tribute writes:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Churchill Downs Inc. has agreed to buy online wagering site Youbet.com Inc. for $126.8 million.

The companies said in a statement Wednesday that they expect the percentage of wagering that’s done online to grow, citing recent trends toward online transactions in other industries. The statement says recent statistics show less than 14 percent of thoroughbred wagering in the U.S. is estimated to be placed online.

The companies say Youbet shareholders will own some 16 percent of Churchill Downs stock after the transaction closes.

Churchill Downs Inc., based in Louisville, owns racetracks in Kentucky, Florida, Illinois and Louisiana and off-track betting facilities. Woodland Hills, Calif.-based Youbet.com Inc. is an online horse racing and horse betting site and provides related services.

From YouBet.com:

Youbet.com is a diversified provider of technology and pari-mutuel horse racing content for consumers through Internet and telephone platforms and is a leading supplier of totalizator systems, terminals and other pari-mutuel wagering services and systems to the pari-mutuel industry through its United Tote subsidiary.

Youbet.com’s website offers members the ability to watch and, in most states, wager on the widest variety of horse racing content available worldwide.

Did someone say "free?"

Did someone say "free?"

Today is Whole Foods tenth anniversary at its Woodland Hills location and as part of the celebration they were offering up a ‘free bag of groceries’ to their first 200 customers.  As you, might imagine the lure of free food was enough to rouse some people out of bed just a little bit early!

I swung by at 6:50AM to take a picture of the festivities and counted about 6o people in line waiting for the doors to open at 7.  Also on the menu today is a ribbon cutting and BBQ at 11AM and an RSVP-required wine tasting at 7:00PM for $2.00.

From the Whole Foods website:

Please join us on Friday, November 13th and help us celebrate our stores 10 year anniversary.  At 7:00am join us for a grocery bag giveaway.  At 11:00am join us for a free BBQ, ribbon cutting ceremony with the Woodland Hills/ Tarzana Chamber of Commerce, goodie bags, prize giveaways and check out K-Earth 101 who will be here with their prize wheel.  Round out the day with our top 10 winter wine tasting from 7:00-8:00pm.  $2.00 per person all attendees must be 21 years of age and present valid id.  Please RSVP to the wine tasting (818)610-0000.

If anyone was there for the 7:00AM opening or for anything else related to today’s events, please leave comments on this post and let us know how it went!
