Well, right as I was walking out the door at 7:40AM this morning I got this notification through Nixle:

Alert Message has been issued by the LAPD – Topanga.

Tuesday February 9, 2010 07:40 AM PST

Ventura Bl closed, DeSoto-Winnetka for a shots fired investigation.  Taft High School is NOT on lock-down.

Topanga officers are currently investigating a radio call of “shots fired” on Ventura Blvd between De Soto Avenue and Winneteka Avenue.  At this time, there are no victims/injuries.  Ventura Blvd has been closed down as a precaution while the investigation is conducted.  Currently, Taft High School is NOT on lock-down.  There is a police helicopter in the area assisting with the investigation.

Immediately, I went to the roof and witnessed 4 helicopters hovering over the affected area, which I later learned through a friend was the Avalon Woodland Hills apartment complex.  In what seems like a former life I lived at Avalon Woodland Hills.  It was the dump of all dumps, and I doubt the remodel has helped.  (My friend corrects me, “actually with the remodeling it’s a little less dumpier :) .”  I’m told that Fox News had shots of people on a balcony being confronted and arrested by cops with guns drawn.

Someone watching on TV and another person I know that lives in the complex says two men and a woman were taken out in handcuffs.

At 8:17AM LAPD broadcasts through Nixle:

Tuesday February 9, 2010 08:17 AM PST

All clear, suspects are in custody on the “shots fired” call on Ventura Bl.  The area will be open to traffic shortly

There has been an “all clear” notification given by officers at the scene of the “shots fired” radio call on Ventura Blvd between De Soto Avenue and Winnetka Avenue, and the suspects have been taken into custody.  It is believed that the sound of the shots had come from a BB gun, however further investigation will be conducted by officers on scene.  There were no victims.

The area that was closed to traffic, is being opened.

Thank you for your patience while the officer conducted their investigation.

For full details, go to http://local.nixle.com/alert/1122222/

Will post a couple of other news articles shortly.

Update: It was a bb gun!
