KB Homes Nearing Completion Of Ascent At Warner Center, Re-Opens Sales Office

Ascent Warner Center Nears Completion (4/18/2010)

Ascent Warner Center Nears Completion (4/18/2010)

In the past month or two, KB Homes has greatly amped up the pace of construction at the troubled Ascent at Warner Center condominium project on Erwin Street.  See my previous post about this project for some back story on the delays.  KB closed the first sales office, which was on Oxnard Street, for the project in 2008 after a fire and amidst the flagging economy, but on Thursday I observed them placing signage for a new office at 21220 Erwin St.  Looks like the sales push for the project is now in full swing, as there are now also sign twirlers out and about on Canoga Avenue.  My guess is that there are some bargains to be had in the building, so if you’re interested drop by or give them a call at 818-274-0101.

The gallery below contains some recent pictures of the project, the sales office, sign twirlers & sidewalk signs, as well as some previous photos I’ve taken over time.  There are also some nice artist renderings on the KB Homes website.  Nice landscaping.

The Collateral Lender Zoning Variance Defeated

Written by Girard on April 18, 2010 - 0 Comments
Categories: Public Service Announcements

Many apologies, as this actually happened at end of March.  I overlooked a comment posted by Ryan, a homeowner on Don Pio Drive that I had met at a February Neighborhood Council meeting where a zoning variance for the proposed new location of the The Collateral Lender had been discussed and a recommendation voted upon.  I ran into him at Whole Foods one morning last week where he reminded me about the comment.

He wrote:

We just received word the other day that the Variance, thankfully, has been DENIED!!!

No words just yet on the The Collateral Lender’s next move, if any.  I’ll keep you posted.

Bank Robbery In Northridge?

Written by Girard on April 14, 2010 - 2 Comments
Categories: Not Woodland Hills

A coworker of mine saw 8 to 10 LAPD cars pull up to the Citibank at Tampa & Nordhoff about 30 minutes ago, guns out.  Was there a bank robbery? Have the Buckshot Bandits returned?

Update: I never did see anything in the media about this.  So, not sure what happened.  If anyone has any information, please leave a comment.

LAPD’s Topanga Station SLO Issues Tips For Dealing With Tagging/Graffiti

Written by Girard on April 7, 2010 - 2 Comments
Categories: Public Service Announcements

LAPD’s Topanga Station Senior Lead Officer Dennis Cunningham sent out some helpful tips for dealing with graffiti earlier this week.  Personally, I believe the solution to graffiti should be a vicious dog or a lead pipe, but LAPD and the City of Los Angeles’ solution involves prompt removal.  Go figure.

LAPD writes:

Taggers come from all walks of life. No community is immune to the effects of graffiti. The presence of Graffiti degrades our communities and empowers the criminal element. Graffiti in the form of Tagging if unchecked only breeds more Tagging.

For more information on Graffiti and Graffiti removal contact your area Senior Lead Office at 818-756-3070.

The most important tool in combating Graffiti is the removal of graffiti. The City of Los Angeles operates a free graffiti removal service. If you observe graffiti in your neighborhood simply call 311 and ask to be connected to the Graffiti Removal Service. You will be required to provide the location of the graffiti, the type of surface (cement, wood, plaster etc.) and the color of the surface.

The city also maintains a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest of individuals committing graffiti. “A reward of up to $1, 000 is offered to private persons who supply information resulting in the identification, apprehension and conviction or final adjudication of persons committing the crime of Graffiti Vandalism or Illegal Dumping (the act of graffiti or vandalism must have already occurred to be in progress”.

We stress the words “Information that leads to” not action that lead to. Stay smart and don’t jeopardize your safety. If you observe tagging in progress maintain a safe distance and call 911. Never attempt to apprehend someone.
