Graffiti Near Chalk Hill Yields Bizarre Photo Op
Yesterday, I was compelled to go to Target on Ventura Blvd in order to purchase laundry detergent. Upon exiting, I observed some – for lack of a better word – yahoos taking pictures of themselves against the background of some graffiti at the Nickel Plaza shopping center located at the southeast corner of Ventura Blvd and Premiere Hills Circle.
Well, upon closer inspection I saw that the graffiti read “F*CK POLICE”. Draw your own conclusions as to whether they mean “F*ck the Police” or they are, in fact, the “F*ck Police.”
What should be noted, however, is that clearly the property owners, or perhaps someone else, firmly adhered to the LAPD’s recent recommendations that all graffiti be removed immediately. As of this morning, as pictured below, the graffiti had been removed. I would, however, recommend they revisit the quick fix with a more closely matching paint color.

Woodland Hills Koo Koo Roo Closes Along With 9 Other Locations
Magic Brands LLC, the now bankrupt Austin, Texas company that owns the Koo Koo Roo and Fuddruckers brands, had sold off their assets to Florida-based Tavistock Group. While many restaurants from each chain will be closed in the deal, Koo Koo Roo is clearly the redheaded stepchild of the deal with 10 of 13 outlets being scrapped.
Tavistock hopes to transform the long dying Fuddruckers brand into a franchising powerhouse like Virgina-based Five Guys Burgers and Fries, the rapidly expanding franchise-ready version of In-N-Out Burger. I fully expect all Koo Koo Roo’s to eventually be closed. It is a chain that lost its direction early in the 2000s with constant and questionable menu and decor changes that left their customers scratching their heads and looking for other dining options.
No word yet on what might move into the now empty Koo Koo Roo space in Woodland Hills, but as always I will keep my eyes on it and keep you posted.

City Mows Lawn Of Old Fire Station 84 In Woodland Hills
In a little bit of a follow up to my previous post about the overgrown lawn at the old LAFD Fire Station 84, I drove by last Saturday April 24th and saw that the city had come in and done a nice mowing. Maybe Brian Humphrey’s good word had something to do with the swift action? Good job, Brian!
Also, I heard from Councilman Dennis Zine at an April 23rd Woodland Hills Warner Center Neighborhood Council meeting that there is some premiliary talk going on between the city and the community about what the ultimate disposition of the site will be. Apprently, according to Zine, just demolishing the old structure will cost a fortune due to environmental concerns such as asbestos.

Mustangs In The Park Today At Warner Ranch Park
About an hour or so ago I drove by Warner Ranch Park and saw that the Mustang Owner’s Club of California and Vista Woodland Hills Ford are holding a Mustangs In The Park event. I saw quite a few vintage ’stangs and of course a Ford promotional trailer and spread of the new models. Seems like this will be going on into the afternoon.
