Westfield To Hold Workshop For The Village Changes, Community Urged To Attend
If you care about Woodland Hills, you should download this PDF to read about Westfield’s proposed changes for The Village. Then, you should come to their workshop and voice your opinions and concerns on Wednesday July 28th. See my annotated illustration above for a diagram of the proposed project.

This is a very good thing. Jobs and tax revenues are a very good thing. I live within feet of this development and I would much prefer the Costco instead of the well basically nothing that sits there now. Wait How can I forget about the Pumpkin patch in October, the Christmas tree lot in December and that really weird shady circus that pops by every now and then.
Also if you look st the plans the upscale super mall is still getting built and the Costco really takes up its own almost separate section than the rest of the development. The Costco will be in the Northeast corner closest to Owensmouth and Victory while the nice new mall will be along Topanga south of where the Crate and Barrell is now. This is all a very good thing.
I agree that we should go to the meeting. We need to tell the doubters and naysayers to SHUT UP.
Progress is Good. New is Good and anything is better than an old gravel lot that only has a Kinko’s and a Carrows.
Do they really think that by adding green dots to represent trees, they’re hiding that instead of a pedestrian friendly walking area, it’s mostly parking lot? I’m glad you posted this, I need to go to voice my disappointment in the Costco plan. We don’t need mega-super-discount stores in Warner Center. This area is on the brink of becoming one of two things…a retail wasteland or a family-friendly place people want to live near and visit.
Mr. Girard doesn’t like the Costco idea but I welcome it. It may bring more traffic but if I have to go to the Canoga park Costco, I still have to traverse the same road to get there. Plus I think the Canoga costco gets a bad rap because of the surrounding area and the Home depot with the squatters (I may have the wrong terminology). Basically, it looks ghetto! But I think the Village costco will be better and more convenient for the southern western part of the valley (West hills, woodland hills…) Gas station is a bonus!
Tle, as always, your point is well presented. I will tell you this, while I am personally not into the Costco part of the plan, I believe my role here is just to let the community know that they can and should have a say in what happens here. If the majority of the people are for the Costco, good, if they are against it, well then the people should make an effort to change the plan.
Elizabeth, I thought the same thing when I saw that drawing. That sure is an awful big amount of trees. I wonder if that would really make it into the actual landscaping… (insert sarcasm here)…
This Costco thing always stirs up a hornets nest for me…
It could be worse; it could be check cashing places and bail bondsmen!
They probably aren’t trees, they’re probably shrubs or potted plants…
Weren’t they originally going to put a Costco in the Fallbrook Mall where the K-Mart used to be? Walmart eventually took over that space. It sounds like Costco really wants a toe-hold in the neighborhood. Personally, I wouldn’t mind a Costco at Victory and Owensmouth. There would still be plenty of room for the allegded pedestrian mall.
When I first hear about this project, I pictured something like the Third Street Promenade, with lots of nice outdoor cafes. I’d be interested to hear it they have any actual tennants for that yet….
Isn’t it kind of funny that in general the people that are for this are mostly for it because they like Costco, but don’t want to go to the open toilet of the one in Canoga Park. Maybe some effort should be made by our wonderful mayor and Dennis Zine to – I don’t know – bulldoze that cesspool in Canoga Park and put it there instead? But poor Mexican people don’t have that kind of pull, they just have to get shot in the streets of Canoga Park every day. Haven’t there been like 6 or 7 (that I know of) murders in CP this year?
How are you going to keep supersized gasoline tanks underground in an active stream? How are you going to diveret, culvertize or cauterize an active stream flowing into a navigable waterway? How far do the plumes from Rocketdyne and Atomics International encroach into this block? How many jobs will be taken by citizens of Woodl, and Hills and Warner Center? How many jobs will be lost in Canoga Park? How much money has Westfield, or its personnel, contributed to Zine’s campaigh for Controller? How much will they? Does this have anything to do with his support for the project? Does he recall that ypu have to carry Woodlnd Hills to carry the Valley?
Here’s a little YouTube levity for CPMV from the CP Chamber of Commerce : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH7Te9Q8KBk
Wow what a bunch of whiners. Either buy the land, move or shut up. There are pros and cons to it. If you want to live in a Forrest then move to Frazier Park.
Tax revenues generated by a Costco in Woodland Hills won’t help Woodland Hills one bit. As with all Valley money it will continue to flow into the fetid sewer that is the downtown LA area. Huge thanks to Mr. Zine for all of his hard work to fight against secession and keep the west valley tied to that dump of a city to the east.
Lets stay on topic. Should we succeed from Los Angeles and do we have a horrible human being for a major and a joke for city counsel? YES YES YES
Does this change the fact that we are getting a great new shopping center in an area of land where there is absolutely nothing.
Also to the person who mentioned the creek. I am not sure if that was serious or not but there is a difference between a creek and sewage. The difference being you cannot smell a creek from 100 feet away.
The only thing that would make this EVEN MORE AWESOME than it is already is if we can get a Arclight Cinema in there.
Out with the Old and in With the New. The driving range and minature golf course, the Topanga Theater, and Yankee Doodles are gone for good people. Lets update our community.
Anthony – if you ever had any doubts about your blog providing public service to your neighbors – forget it! It’s a winner.
RECALL ZINE!
Not so much a very good thing: What plan are you looking at? There is NO upscale super mall/nice new mall along Topanga in this plan “B” excuse. Just a bunch of disconnected buildings. Iron Mike tells it like it is. Zine recently succeeded in his push for this area to designated an “Enterprise Zone”. So, Costco would enjoy HUGE tax breaks, drastically reducing the usual contributions to tax revenues. Costco will get special tax credits and deductions. Costco will also receive incentives such as: hiring credits, sales & use tax credits, expense and interest deductions, DWP rate discount, sewer facility hookup payment plans, Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and reduced parking requirements.
Hiring Credit Example: Up to $37,440 over a 5-year period per each qualified employee can be claimed by an Enterprise Zone business as a tax credit. An employee can qualify under any one of 13 different categories.
