Here’s Something We Could Do With That Old Circuit City In Warner Center
John P writes in a comment:
We need a very upscale supermarket in the neigborhood. I live at WC on Canoga and am all for something like that within walking distance. We don’t have that right now.
John is correct. I also live in the Warner Center area and I find it annoying that I have to drive to Ventura Blvd. just to go grocery shopping. You’d think that by now Warner Center – being that it is so dense and mapped out to be a work/live urban area – would have at least some grocery option.
Check out the picture above of Sprouts Farmers Market that opened in the closed down Circuit City location in Culver City. I had a chance to visit the store recently and it’s very nice – a lot like Henry’s.

There is also a Sprout’s in the old Circuit City building in Newbury Park as well.
Never heard of Sprouts but I am always in favor of more grocery options. I am still angry about Bristol Farms closing down what is now an Office Depot at TCB/Erwin. Office Depot’s cheese selection leaves much to be desired.
What about a Fresh and Easy in that spot. LA Fitness by the way tells everyone they are moving there in early Winter
Wow, the Office Depot was once a Bristol Farms? How long ago was this?
Sean, thanks for the heads up about LA Fitness, I will see if this can be confirmed…
Bristol Farms was there from about ‘97 to 2000. I think it was an Albertson’s even before Bristol Farms. At the time of closing the owners commented that would have preferred a location on Ventura Blvd. Did they take the Henry’s space? No, did they take the Trader Joe’s space? No. I don;t think you’ll see them come back to the area. They opened and closed in Valencia recently too. There are many more living on Warner Center now and a grocery store at Circuit City seems like a no-brainer.
For those not around long enough to have known, but the Circuit City was formerly an Irvine Ranch Market.
And yes the Office Depot was a Bristol Farms, but prior to being OD, it was previously an Alpha Beta.
Grocery stores do not do well on Topanga Canyon as the traffic is just too much traveling too fast.
In fact the only one is the Ralphs at Roscoe, which people can access from Roscoe without having to get onto Topanga Canyon.
As to the Henry’s space, it was too big for Bristol Farms and the Trader Joe’s space was previously a Long’s Drug Store, and while an acceptable size, Trader Joe’s could ultimately pay more rent.
The departures of both Bristol Farms and Houstons Restaurant from the greater Warner Center area were not coincidental – neither were sufficiently supported by the locals.
Bristol Farms has already closed stores in Valencia and Mission Viejo this year alone!!!
Actually the site of Henrys was going to be split. Half Traders Joes with the other half becoming an Asian Market. Traders inevitably opted for the Longs site
Is it true that LA Fitness is taking the Circuit City space?
Contact Neighborhood Council to find status of LA Fitness plans for the Circuit City site. Last I heard (June-ish), they were in the permitting process. I saw their presentation to the Neighborhood Council — it would be a big, new facility similar to the LA Fitness centers at Northridge and Universal City.
