I discovered a book about the area: The history of Woodland Hills and Girard, by Richard K Cacioppo. The book was first published in '82, and then again in '84 with a slightly different title. The Dream City, A Complete History: Girard, Woodland Hills, Warner Center. The '82 edition is available used from Amazon at $210. A little steep for me....

I love to have a source of local news and trivia. Thank you Girard.

I've lived here since '94 and in these short 15 years seen so many changes; the demise of defense industry manufacturing; the substantial improvement in restaurant choices; the MacManisaion of the single home areas, the substantial increase in apartment building..... and I use to be the only one I ever saw on a bicycle - but now I'm not alone. I love it when I see families with their kids on the rack or dragged in a card behind the bike. We're not quite like Holland yet, but certainly can be a lot closer.

Thanks for the blog. I've been enjoying it a lot! One minor correction to the Woodland Hills info is that the treaty was signed here to end the Mexican War. I don't know where this info started--I've seen it everywhere on the internet, but it's not true. The actual site is near the Cahuenga Pass, right by what is now Universal Studios. There's actually a plaque on Lankershim Blvd. there honoring the site! Donna, where is the original Girard house located?

Thanks for the article on Girard, it's a never tiring story...to me. This is such an interesting part of Los Angeles. There is an original Girard house down the street from me, and it has been cared for and tastefully changed over the years (the earthquake forcing much of that).

I can't tell you how impressed I am with this website. I live in Woodland Hills, and I'm glad that someone created a down-to-earth blog... not hiding anything.
