A sport utility vehicle crashed into a Woodland Hills home early Thursday, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the 22000 block of Providencia Street, just west of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, around 1:51 a.m.

The driver, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI, also hit a parked car before crashing into the home, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The SUV plowed through the kitchen, but no one was injured.

KTLA adds:

The woman crashed her jeep into two parked cars and then slammed into the side of a house, coming to rest in the kitchen.

LAPD Topanga Division and Valley Traffic Division need the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run with injuries.

On April 22, 2010, at approximately 6:30 p.m. a hit and run traffic collision occurred at Oso and Sherman Way. The driver of the hit and run vehicle did not stop and render aid, but instead fled the scene. The other driver has been hospitalized with injuries. The hit and run driver’s car is a white 2000 Chevy Pickup truck missing the front license plate, which was left at scene (8G41149), with major damage to the passenger door. If you see this vehicle, please call 911 or your local police. Do not contact the suspect or touch the vehicle! We might need to print it.

The vehicle is not registered locally.

I remember hearing about this a few weeks back, but didn’t know the kid lived in Woodland Hills.  It happened on Friday, February 12, 2010.  There is a Facebook memorial page for Adir Vered with almost 3,000 members.

PORTER RANCH — A 17-year-old boy who had his head sticking out of a car window died when the 16-year-old driver crashed into a parked vehicle in Porter Ranch.

The crash happened around 9:25 p.m. Friday in the 10400 block of Wystone Avenue, according to Sgt. Charles Swanson of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

The 17-year-old was apparently not wearing a seat belt, and was ejected from the car when his head struck the parked car.

The deceased teen was identified as Adir Vered, an honor student.

The 16-year-old driver and another passenger, also 16, were not injured, Swanson said.

After an investigation, police officials said they had no reason to believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver, whose name was also unavailable, was questioned and then released.

Porter Ranch – A teenager who stuck his head out of a car window died when the teen driver crashed into a parked vehicle in Porter Ranch, a Los Angeles police sergeant said today.

Adir Vered, 17, of Woodland Hills, was killed about 9:25 p.m. Friday in the 10400 block of Wystone Avenue, according to the coroner and Sgt. Charles Swanson of the Valley Traffic Division.

A 16-year-old was driving the car when it hit a parked car, Swanson said.

Vered, who was not wearing a seat belt and had stuck his head out the window, was killed when his head hit the parked car and he was ejected, Swanson said.

The 16-year-old driver and another passenger, also 16, were not injured, Swanson said. The driver was questioned and released, Swanson said.

Dr. Payman Engheta, a general dentist with offices in Woodland Hills inside the building behind Roy’s and Fleming’s, died in a single car accident in his Lamborghini on Sunday February 14th.  My good friend Megan, who was one of his patients, says he was an excellent dentist and that she “loved that guy.”  She is very saddened by this death.  She adds, “he was a great dentist – friendly, compassionate – also cool as he loved Black Sabbath.  I referred him to all my coworkers – he would help people that couldn’t afford dental work.  Just a genuine good-hearted man.”

Melissa Gasca of The Signal writes:

A close friend of Payman Engheta said Monday that the deceased Stevenson Ranch husband and father touched many hearts.

Engheta, 47, died Sunday after he lost control of his Lamborghini convertible on Bouquet Canyon Road near Cavi at the Big Oaks Lodge, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

“We lost a beloved angel and dedicated father of two sons, a loving husband, a compassionate and devoted doctor,” said friend Nader Javadi as he read from a letter prepared by Engheta’s immediate family.

The CHP report said Engheta was driving at about 40 miles per hour on northbound Bouquet Canyon Road when he lost control of his vehicle on a right curve. The Lamborghini slid and rotated until its left side collided with a tree near Cavi at the Big Oaks, a restaurant almost four miles north of Lombardi Ranch.

CHP acting Sgt. Tony Getzelman said the measure of Engheta’s speed was based on preliminary investigation including witness reports of people at the restaurant. However, the collision is still under investigation, he said.

The speed limit in the area is 55 miles per hour, Getzelman said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department units responded to the collision, which occurred about noon on Sunday. Engheta was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he endured eight hours in the operating room, Javadi said.

The local man suffered traumatic injuries to the head and a rib fracture, said Javadi, who is also a doctor and has known Engheta since middle school.

Engheta had a dentistry practice in Topanga, but his family has lived in Stevenson Ranch for seven or eight years, Javadi said.

Javadi also said that wife Homa Engheta was too distraught to speak and sons Babak and Behman – 6 and 10 years old – had not been told about their father’s death yet.

Engheta had just gone out for a ride Sunday morning and was supposed to return home for lunch with his family, Javadi said.

“We miss him so much,” Javadi read from the prepared letter. “His body is not with us anymore, but his loving memory will live in our heart forever.”

The CHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor, the report said.

Daily News writes:

WOODLAND HILLS – A tree apparently fell on a man in Woodland Hills this afternoon as the first in a series of powerful storms pounded the Southland.

The accident in the 22000 block of a Buenaventura Street was reported about 2 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

He had no information on the man’s condition.

Well, as some of you might remember an auto accident took out the California Chicken Cafe sign in  Woodland Hills on November 27th (Black Friday). See my previous pictures here. Last week, a new sign went up replacing the damaged one.  The above pictures are of the sign on October 15th (from an exclusive HillsOfWoodland.com file photo) and of the new sign today, January 1, 2010.  Enjoy.

P.S. I know this is just about the most exciting boring post ever.  Stuff like this interests me for some strange  reason.

This morning I took a few photographs of the aftermath of Friday’s crash into a telephone pole and the California Chicken Cafe sign in Woodland Hills.

I actually saw LADWP doing work in the California Chicken Cafe parking lot at about 2:00PM today, but wasn’t sure what happened until I saw this article in the Daily News:

WOODLAND HILLS – A car hit a power pole at Ventura Boulevard and Shoup Avenue early Friday morning knocking out power to 77 Department of Water and Power customers.

Power was restored at 12:45 p.m. Friday, said DWP spokeswoman MaryAnne Pierson said.

The California Highway Patrol closed the Shoup Avenue off ramp from the westbound 101 Freeway because of the crash and opened it at 12:41 p.m. Friday, said CHP Officer Jennifer Connolly.

The Los Angeles Police Department was handling the collision, which occurred around 5:40 a.m., Connolly said.

A pedestrian was also involved in the crash, said Cleon Joseph, a LAPD spokesman. No fatalities were reported, he said early Friday.

I didn’t get a chance to take a picture, but the Daily News site has a couple of great ones of the aftermath.  I’m not sure if the pedestrian was struck or not, but if any other details emerge I will post them.

Woodland Hills Cleaners Board-Up

At about 2:50PM a car hit a woman and then dragged her 5 year old child through the plate glass window of  Woodland Hills Cleaners at 22882 Ventura Blvd.  Both mother and daughter were injured, the daughter more seriously.  The clerk inside the cleaners was unhurt.  The woman and her daughter were airlifted to the hospital.

LA Daily News writes:

WOODLAND HILLS – A woman and her young daughter were injured after a car struck them and crashed through the storefront window of a dry cleaner Saturday afternoon, police said.Los Angeles firefighters used a helicopter to airlift the two to Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA. The young girl, whose injuries were considered the more serious of the two, was listed in stable condition. Officials said she was 4 or 5 years old.

The identity and condition of the driver, described by witnesses as an elderly woman, were not immediately available.

“The woman had mistaken her gas pedal for her brakes,” said police Sgt. Arlene Hennessey, with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division. “She was stopping for the mother and daughter …. Next thing you know, she’s taking the mother and daughter for a ride on her car through the plate glass window.”

The dry cleaner is located in a strip mall at Ventura Boulevard and Fallbrook Avenue.

A 5-year-old girl was in serious condition today after being struck by a vehicle that plowed into a dry cleaning store in Woodland Hills, authorities said.
