Daily News Article About Pavilions Coming To Corbin Village

Written by Girard on August 27, 2010 - 0 Comments
Categories: Development, Food, Shopping

This is an article from earlier this month that I wanted to share with those of you who didn’t see it.

From the Daily News:

Construction has begun on a 47,000-square-foot Pavilions supermarket in Woodland Hills that will add as many as 100 jobs to the San Fernando Valley economy, officials said Friday.

The upscale market, expected to open next spring, is owned by Safeway Inc. and will be located in Corbin Village, a strip mall on the south side of Ventura Boulevard between Oakdale and Corbin avenues. It will be adjacent to a 99 Cents store, in space that has been occupied over the years by a variety of retail stores.

“The Ventura Boulevard corridor represents an excellent opportunity for us,” company spokesman Carlos Illingworth said in an e-mail. “We don’t have a hiring date set but we’re going to be hiring between 80 to 100 employees at that location.”

Some current tenants are delighted about the project.

“It will be a wonderful upscale neighbor,” said David Cooperman, owner of Shalom House, which sells Jewish merchandise and has been located in Corbin Village for 16 years.

Gwen Christy, the owner of nearby Madonna Novelle, anticipates that Pavilions shoppers will be drawn to her beauty establishment for a massage or facial.

“We can’t wait, we can’t wait,” a smiling Christy said. “It’s long overdue. It’s going to be a huge benefit.”

As part of the project, Corbin Village will get a new parking lot and lighting, along with a new facade on the 99 Cents store.

Visiting The PF Chang’s $3PM – $6PM Happy Hour In Woodland Hills

$3PM - $6PM Happy Hour Menu at PF Chang's

$3PM - $6PM Happy Hour Menu at PF Chang's

A few months back PF Chang’s, in line with many other local restaurants, launched a great Happy Hour with food and drink specials ranging from $3 to $6 from 3pm to 6pm every day of the week – appropriately named the $3pm – $6pm Happy Hour.  I have had a chance to drop in on it several times now, and it’s pretty solid.  Weekdays it gets pretty busy at the bar at around 5pm, but the specials are valid in the dining area as well.  These prices are pretty amazing, and I must admit I’ve had those Northern Style Spare Ribs as my dinner on more than one ocassion.  I have included a gallery below of some of my favorite items from the menu.  Honestly, I haven’t tried the drinks yet but as soon as I can get some people together to head over and have some drinks I’ll post pictures of those, too.

In keeping with the recent trend among just about all restaurants in Warner Center, Kate Mantilini in Woodland Hills has begun offering discounted food and drink selections in its bar area weekdays from 4 to 7pm.

In addition to $5 house drinks and $6 house martinis, wine selections include Pinot Noir, Cabernet, and Chardonnay by Smoking Loon.  Happy Hour beers priced at $3.75 include Fat Tire, Pyramid Hefeweizen, Sierra Nevada Summerfest.  Discount appetizers and tapas selections are served in the bar area and range from $4.50 to $7.00.  Selections include made to order Guacamole, Tapas Crab Cake, Tapas Ribs, Grilled Artichokes, and several others.

I saw the shiny new sidewalk sign for the happy hour yesterday and decided to call some friends over to check it out with me.  Foods and drinks were very good, and the place was pretty busy by about 6pm.  See images in the gallery below.
