FDIC Seizes Western Commercial Bank in Woodland Hills, Deposits Transferred to First California Bank

Written by Girard on November 9, 2010 - 0 Comments
Categories: Local Businesses

The Consumerist writes:

The FDIC seized four more banks on Friday. That brings the total number for 2010 to 143, the most in a year since the S&L fiasco back in the 80’s. Here’s who went down:

* K Bank based in Randallstown, MD – $538.3 million in assets
* Pierce Commercial Bank based in Tacoma, WA – $221.1 million
* Western Commercial Bank in Woodland Hills, CA – $98.6 million
* First Vietnamese American Bank in Westminster, CA $48 million.

The assets and deposits were quickly gobbled up by other banks, with the FDIC and the acquiring bank splitting the losses on K Bank and Western Commercial Bank.

The size and scope of the banks that went down for the count this year are on average than those last year. However, the pace and number reflects how communities and local lending institutions are struggling to keep their commitments as more loans go sour. Last year 140 banks went under.

The average consumer is not at risk, as the FDIC guarantees deposits per account up to $250,000.

Western Commercial Bank writes on their website:

On Friday, November 5, 2010, Western Commercial Bank, Woodland Hills, CA was closed by the California Department of Financial Institutions. Subsequently, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named Receiver. No advance notice is given to the public when a financial institution is closed.

All deposit accounts have been transferred to First California Bank, Westlake Village, CA. For more information on First California Bank, visit us at http://www.fcbank.com/.

The FDIC has assembled useful information regarding your relationship with Western Commercial Bank. Besides a checking account, you may have Certificates of Deposit, a business checking account, a Social Security direct deposit, and other relationships with the institution.

Emma Ridley’s Goddess Fitness Dance Opens In Old Woodland Casual Space

Goddess Fittness Dance in Woodland Hills

Goddess Fittness Dance in Woodland Hills

Wow, today when I was driving to the future location of Pavilion’s in Woodland Hills I noticed that a new business had moved into the old Woodland Casual space at 19855 Ventura Blvd.  Turns out that it’s the second location of Emma Ridley’s Goddess Fitness Dance.  According to their Facebook page, they are in the midst of their Grand Opening.

Seems like Ridley is some kind of socialite and former 80’s party girl who may have been on some sort of reality show called Spoiled Rotten.  None of this I can truly confirm or disconfirm, but what I can tell you is that the place seemed pretty busy and I observed many MILFs and Cougars walking in and out of the place.  To me, this is instantly more exciting than the overpriced patio furniture that was previously available at that location.  Check out the video clip below which documents the site selection for this location.

Rumor Mill Puts Anthropologie At Westfield Topanga Opening For Monday April 5, 2010

Anthropologie Westfield Topanga

Anthropologie Westfield Topanga

I swung by Topanga Plaza over the weekend and it looked like Anthropologie was pretty much ready to go.  People were inside setting up merchandise and finalizing the window displays.  A call over to the mall today puts the whisper open day for next Monday April 5th, but I was advised to call back later in the week for final confirmation as Anthropologie has not committed to a firm date just yet.

I was also told that Urban Outfitters has only just begun their construction, and as of right now they are looking at a mid-July open date.  Watch this space for more information!

The Porsche Panamera Is One Hot Ride

The Auto Gallery

The Auto Gallery

This past misty Saturday I had to take my car in to Auto Gallery for it’s 15,000 mile service.  So, as is my custom, I browsed the showroom at check out the Porsches on display.  I must say, the 30-something year old guy in me as well as the kid in me, is quite smitten with the Porsche Panamera.  It looks to be  400 horsepower of four-door joy.  I also bought myself some scrambled eggs from the hot bar at the Whole Foods next door and ate them in the outdoor cafe area.  Councilman Dennis Zine walked by.  Spooky.

I leave you with some pictures of this marvelous car.   According to Porsche.com the Panamera S starts at $89,800.  Enjoy.
