Apparent Murder/Suicide In West Hills – Donna and Craig Edwards

This older couple was found by coworkers of the wife deceased in their home on Monday.  It happened in West Hills, but still I think relevant to the blog.  Daily News writes:

WEST HILLS – A 66-year-old woman and her 62-year-old husband were discovered dead in their home in a murder suicide, police said Tuesday.Donna Edwards was found shot to death at 10 a.m. Monday in the master bedroom of their home in the 7900 block of McLaren Avenue by colleagues who became concerned when she failed to show up for work, said Los Angeles Police Department officials.

Craig Edwards was discovered dead on the kitchen floor. His cause for death is being determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner. Police said there were no obvious signs for his death.

Authorities are still determining a motive for the slaying and have recovered several weapons from the home.

Police ask anyone with information on the deaths to call LAPD’s Topanga division homicide detectives Foster Rains and Ammon Williams at 756-4820. After hour calls can be directed to 1-877-527-3247.

A comment left by Larry of North Hills makes some good points about sad incidents like this:

Well, either way, I wouldn’t rush to judgement on this. Life, as you know, is crazy and very unfair. Just look around you. We have a 13% unemployment rate, we have the highest tax rates in the country, the union and government workers getting bloated salaries and pensions for doing basically nothing to improve our own infrastracture and they could retire early,… I could go on and on. We were never asked to suffer this way, never.

Maybe the couple’s house was about to be foreclosed on or that their savings were blown away by the greedy Wall Street executives or both, who knows.

Now I don’t wanna hear statements like “Suicide, a permanent solution to a temporary problem” or “Suicide has no salvation in God’s Kingdom” or what have you. I don’t wanna hear that crap. I want someone to step forward from “Profiles of Courage” and rescue us.

Well, it’s definitely my opinion that nice Sunday breakfast options in Woodland Hills are definitely limited. On that subject, I’d love for you guys to leave some comments with your suggestions attached to this post. I’ve driven by this newish place (opened maybe late last year or earlier this year) in Tarzana called il Tramezzino (18636 Ventura Blvd) a few times, and recently they’ve thrown up a huge “NEW SERVING BREAKFAST” banner so I’ve marked it down on my culinary calendar as a place to try.

Today being Sunday I decided to sleep in until about 11AM so when I woke up I gave the place a call to see when they were serving breakfast until. 2:00PM. Excellent! So I grabbed a friend, hopped in the car and ventured over to our neighbor to the East, Tarzana to see what il Tramezzino had to offer. First, I’d like to say that it’s in a brand new shopping complex which has great parking and some nice upscale clothing shops. A nice clean environment, and the restaurant was nice, clean, inviting, and I did observe quite a few young families around. A good vibe for sure.

I had the menu item entitled “Scramble #1 – $9.95″ which consisted of scrambled eggs with turkey sausage, roasted peppers, onions, and mushrooms covered with cheddar cheese, accompanied by some crusty Italian toast and fresh fruit. My friend had “Breakfast Combo #3 – $8.95″ which served up 2 pumpkin pancakes (how seasonally appropriate) with a side of bacon, and she added some scrambled eggs for an additional $3.75.

I must say that the food was absolutely excellent, the food was great, and the atmosphere was upscale yet not pretentious, and best of all the price was quite affordable. Much cheaper than breakfast for two at say Marmalade in Calabasas, and a much quicker in-and-out experience. As an added bonus, almost immediately after we sat down my friend noticed that Kourtney Kardashian and her boyfriend Scott were sitting right behind us. It’s actually a crazy coincidence because we had literally justed watched an old episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians (where they ‘broke up’) right before leaving for the restaurant!

The place was great, I just wish we could get some good places like this to come into Woodland Hills. Why are we being upstaged by Tarzana?

Speak of the Devil.. And the Devil Appears. Another pedestrian struck in LA

Written by Girard on October 4, 2009 - 0 Comments

Hot off the presses:

Little Armenia, Calif. A hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian in Little Armenia Saturday, police reported.

The accident at Mariposa Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard occurred at about 1 a.m., according to Los Angeles police.

No information was available about the victim’s condition.

Not really relevant to us in the West Valley, per se. Maybe this happens constantly and now I’m just hyperaware to it. I’m surprised to hear there is a place called Little Armenia. I thought it only existed in the darkest places of my psyche.
