Here’s Something We Could Do With That Old Circuit City In Warner Center
John P writes in a comment:
We need a very upscale supermarket in the neigborhood. I live at WC on Canoga and am all for something like that within walking distance. We don’t have that right now.
John is correct. I also live in the Warner Center area and I find it annoying that I have to drive to Ventura Blvd. just to go grocery shopping. You’d think that by now Warner Center – being that it is so dense and mapped out to be a work/live urban area – would have at least some grocery option.
Check out the picture above of Sprouts Farmers Market that opened in the closed down Circuit City location in Culver City. I had a chance to visit the store recently and it’s very nice – a lot like Henry’s.

Daily News Article About Pavilions Coming To Corbin Village
This is an article from earlier this month that I wanted to share with those of you who didn’t see it.
From the Daily News:
Construction has begun on a 47,000-square-foot Pavilions supermarket in Woodland Hills that will add as many as 100 jobs to the San Fernando Valley economy, officials said Friday.
The upscale market, expected to open next spring, is owned by Safeway Inc. and will be located in Corbin Village, a strip mall on the south side of Ventura Boulevard between Oakdale and Corbin avenues. It will be adjacent to a 99 Cents store, in space that has been occupied over the years by a variety of retail stores.
“The Ventura Boulevard corridor represents an excellent opportunity for us,” company spokesman Carlos Illingworth said in an e-mail. “We don’t have a hiring date set but we’re going to be hiring between 80 to 100 employees at that location.”
Some current tenants are delighted about the project.
“It will be a wonderful upscale neighbor,” said David Cooperman, owner of Shalom House, which sells Jewish merchandise and has been located in Corbin Village for 16 years.
Gwen Christy, the owner of nearby Madonna Novelle, anticipates that Pavilions shoppers will be drawn to her beauty establishment for a massage or facial.
“We can’t wait, we can’t wait,” a smiling Christy said. “It’s long overdue. It’s going to be a huge benefit.”
As part of the project, Corbin Village will get a new parking lot and lighting, along with a new facade on the 99 Cents store.

Performance Bicycle Now Open In Woodland Hills, Grand Opening Sale Thru Sunday
I remember reading this press release (PDF) a few months back and seeing the signage go up for a new Performance Bicycle store next door to the Men’s Wearhouse earlier this year. However, the opening date mentioned in the release, May 7th, came and went with very little visible process at the site. However, yesterday Performance Bicycle finally opened at 6400 Owensmouth Avenue in Woodland Hills.
An employee at the store told me over the phone that they are having a big grand opening sale through tomorrow, so if you are into cycling you should drop by and check the place out.

Sadly, I have to work on Thursdays and have never been able to check it out. Anyone who has been there, please feel free to comment.

Apple Store At Westfield Topanga To Open At 9am Saturday For iPad Launch
They’re already setting up the queue barriers at Westfield Topanga for the undoubtedly long line of people who will be showing up in the very early hours tomorrow to get a first look at, and perhaps even buy, Apple’s new iPad. It is unclear, probably intentionally, just how many units will be at the store to actually purchase. Apparently, when you pre-order them there is an option for in-store delivery, so some may be reserved for that. There will also be two iPad ‘events’ at the store besides the general hoopla at 9am.

Anthropologie Now Open In Westfield Topanga Mall
Well folk, it looks like Anthropologie at Westfield Topanga ended up being able to open sooner than previously anticipated! They opened up today, so I dropped by and took a few pictures for your viewing pleasure. The place definitely had a very Springy feel, as they were selling live plants and lots of pretty Spring dresses. Enjoy.
This almost makes up for the closing of Pottery Barn earlier this year. The phone number of the new store is (818) -716-1162 and it is located on the first floor of the mall, just below the food court, in the old The Farm space.
