A Sweet Deal At Morton’s For National Pi Day 3/14

Only $3.14 For Morton's Key Lime Pie On Sunday 3/14

Only $3.14 For Morton's Key Lime Pie On Sunday 3/14

Now this is definitely an offer that both the dessert lover and math geek in me could never pass up.  A new friend writes in:

Don’t miss out on Morton’s The Steakhouse’s super sweet National Pi Day celebration where you can order their scrumptious Key Lime Pie for only $3.14 per slice in the main dining room or in the bar area (only on Sunday). Slices of Key Lime Pie are priced around $10.50, so which is the better deal? You do the math.
Guests can take advantage of this National Pi Day celebration at any LA Morton’s location not just Woodland Hills including Beverly Hills, downtown, and Burbank this Sunday all day. Here are addresses and phone numbers for each restaurant:

· Morton’s The Steakhouse Woodland Hills (6250 Canoga Ave., Woodland Hills, CA 91367; 818-703-7272)

· Morton’s The Steakhouse Beverly Hills (435 S. LaCienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048; 310-246-1501)

· Morton’s The Steakhouse Burbank (3400 West Olive Avenue, Burbank, CA 91505; 818-238-0424)

· Morton’s The Steakhouse Los Angeles (735 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90017; 213-553-4566)

This is an outstanding deal.  I haven’t had a chance to really cover Morton’s much for the blog just yet, but it is one of my favorite steakhouses.  You can, however, pretty much guarantee that I will be heading over their Sunday for a piece of this pie, as will a few friends of mine who are absolute Key Lime Pie loving maniacs.

Update: I had a chance to bring home a slice of the Key Lime Pime from Morton’s the other night and it is awesome!

Checking Out Fleming’s “5 for $6 ’til 7″ Happy Hour, Prime Burger, and More

Fleming's Woodland Hills

Fleming's Woodland Hills

After watching a day worth of glutinous food programming on the Travel Channel I was really hungry for something big, delicious, and if at all possible, greasy.  I remember that I had a $20 gift card for Fleming’s that I acquired during the holidays.  I also remembered that they do a seven-days-a-week happy hour special in their bar area called 5 for $6 ’til 7.  That’s 5 cocktails, 5 appetizers, and five wines by the glass for $6 each.  They also offer their Prime Burger for $6.00.  That’s an amazing deal.  Check it out:

5 COCKTAILS
WHITE COSMO, Ketel One Vodka
APPLETINI, Grey Goose Vodka
FLEMING’S CLASSIC, Ketel One Vodka
MARGATINI, Gran Centenario Anejo Tequila
TROPICAL MARTINI, Malibu Coconut Rum

5 WINES BY THE GLASS*
PINOT GRIGIO, Redbank, Australia
CHARDONNAY, Glen Carlou, South Africa
PINOT NOIR, Mark West, California
PETITE SIRAH, Vinum, California
CABERNET SAUVIGNON, 14 Hands, Washington

5 APPETIZERS
TENDERLOIN CARPACCIO, Creole Mustard Sauce
SWEET CHILI CALAMARI
WICKED CAJUN BARBECUE SHRIMP
SEARED AHI TUNA, Spicy Mustard Sauce
JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKES, Red Pepper Sauce

NEW FLEMING’S PRIME BURGER, Cheese and Bacon

Each Selection $6. Served Nightly Until 7PM.

Available 7 nights a week at all Fleming’s except where prohibited by law.
Hours and offerings subject to change in compliance with local or state liquor laws.

So, appetite in tow I headed over to Fleming’s (6373 Topanga Canyon Blvd.) at around 5pm.  Keep it mind that it’s a Sunday, however the place was surprisingly busy, but not packed.  I was however, easily able to get a seat at the bar.  It really picked up about 30 minutes after I got there and the bar got full.

Fleming's Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes

Fleming's Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes

I usually only drink when I plan to get fully obliterated, so I didn’t partake of any cocktail specials.  I did, however, order the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes.  They were flavorful, huge, and contained lots of crab meat.  I will be back for more of these, that you can guarantee.

Fleming's Prime Burger

Fleming's Prime Burger

Next up, they delivered my Prime Burger – 8 oz. of prime beef (cooked rare and bleeding, by my command) with bacon, bleu cheese, “Served with a Mini Wedge and Fleming’s Signature Onion Rings.” Honestly, this burger was awesome.  It was juicy, and just greasy enough to really satisfy that urge that has been boiling inside me.  There are several cheeses you can get it with, but my selection of bleu cheese allowed me to evaluate it against the Bleu Cheeseburger at Gaucho Grill.  And, to be honest, it definitely gives Gaucho’s offering a run for it’s money.  And, hello, it’s $6.00 people.  That’s AMAZING.  Those onion rings were pretty good too, but after devouring the burger I only had room for one of them.

Fleming's Walnut Turtle Pie

Simply put the 5 for $6 ’til 7 deal has to be one of the best happy hours in the West Valley. I had a few bucks left on my $20 gift card, and rather than letting it go to waste I picked up a delicious slice of Walnut Turtle Pie (homemade caramel, walnuts and chocolate baked in a chocolate pie crust) to take home.  I’m still buzzing from the sugar high. :)

Escaping Rainy Gloom With A Chocolate Shake At The Habit

Habit Burger Chocolate Shake

The Habit Chocolate Shake

This rainy and gloomy week has really been throwing me for a loop.  Yesterday, around 5pm after work I decided to drop in on The Habit (22651 Ventura Blvd) for a little sweet spirit boosting joy – their Chocolate Shake.  I had actually never had it before, but it was definitely very good.  Very chocolaty, made with real ice cream, and  topped with whipped cream.  It really boosted my spirits up before I had to head back out in the pouring rain!

One of the major pluses about these rainy days is that places are not as crowded!  Stay dry everyone!

Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory

Stephanie's Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake

Stefanie's Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake

Last week, a friend sent me a text message:

if you have the means i highly recommend the new red velvet cheesecake at cheesecake factory

Naturally, my ears perk up at the mention of new discoveries and advancements in cheesecake technology.  The new dessert delight is officially known as Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake and was unveiled by the company on July 30th (National Cheesecake Day, how’d I miss this one?).

I had actually forgotten about this recommendation, but on a recent visit to The Cheesecake Factory (in Woodland Hills, of course) to indulge in one of my favorite entree items (the Chicken Piccata) my waitress recommended that I try out this tempting new addition to TCF’s repertoire.

Before getting into how great this slice of cheesecake was, I’d like to point out that The Cheesecake Factory has been doing quite a bit in recent years with regards to feeding the hungry, the homeless, and low income families and individuals.  This includes food drives, charitable contributions, providing Thanksgiving day meals at shelters across the country.  This trend continues with this particular menu item:

And for every slice of Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake™ sold over the next 12 months, we’ll donate $.25 to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief charity.

And now, to the cheesecake!  Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake brings together “Moist layers of Red Velvet Cake and our Original Cheesecake covered with our special Cheesecake Factory cream cheese frosting.”  First, I’d like to say you should probably bring a friend or three when you head out to try this new item.  It’s a serious piece of cheesecake, best tackled by a team of confectionery devotees.  It is so sweet, and rich that it will blow your mind.  I was extremely impressed with with how moist the red velvet cake layers were.  This is always a major make-or-break feature for any piece of cake, and here TCF definitely hits the mark.

The frosting is probably one of the sweetest that I’ve ever had.  Man, this is definitely on indulgent slice of Heaven!  That Stephanie must be an amazing woman.  I wonder if she’s single?
