Eric Sondheimer (LA Times) Twitters This Week’s West Valley Football Results
LA Times’ Eric Sondheimer Twitters (@latsondheimer) tonight’s results for the West Valley:
ECR 59, Granada Hills 10. It’s ECR vs. Taft next week for the West Valley League championship.
Taft 33, Chatsworth 0.
El Camino Real moves to 7-0 and Taft improves to 4-3. The October 30th game between ECR and Taft should be very interesting!

Bercovici Declared Ineligible for Season
LA Times writes:
Michael Bercovici, a junior quarterback who transferred in the middle of the season from Westlake Village Westlake to Woodland Hills Taft, has been declared ineligible by City Section Commissioner Barbara Fiege after determining the transfer was “athletically motivated,” according to assistant commissioner John Aguirre.
Bercovici will have to miss this season unless he wins eligibility from an appeals panel.
How much you wanna bet Bercovici packs up his toothbrush from his Taft adjacent apartment and heads back to Westlake?

High Scoring Week in City Section Football
Good article in the Daily News about this past weekend’s high scoring weekend in LA high school football, in which both Taft and El Camino Real won their games by scoring 45 or more points.
And by the way, Taft improves to 3-3 with their 47-7 defeat of Granada Hills .

Dropped in to the El Camino Real Game Tonight, Score Was 30-18 at the Half
I haven’t been to a high school football game since 1995 when I was in high school myself, but I figured since I have been blogging a bit about it recently I’d drop in on the El Camino Real vs. Birmingham game tonight. It was a home game for ECR and the league opener, and despite Birmingham putting a decent amount of points on the board, ECR seemed pretty dominant.
When I got there the score was actually already 14 to 12 in Birmingham’s favor, but ECR quickly regained momentum and started scoring a bunch as Birmingham kept turning the ball over on downs giving the ball back to ECR with amazing field position – maybe they don’t have a punter, not sure what the story is on that.
I only stayed until halftime, I wanted to leave before being arrested for being too creepy. Will update tomorrow with the final score and articles I come across.

League Openers Tonight for Taft, El Camino Real
The City Section has several important league openers on Friday night, including Birmingham at El Camino Real in the West Valley League and Narbonne at San Pedro in the Marine League.
Birmingham lost all five of its nonleague games but gets back USC-bound running back Trajuan Briggs. El Camino Real won all five of its nonleague games and gets the chance to prove it can compete with Taft and Birmingham for the West Valley League championship.
Let’s be honest, you don’t go 0-5 because you are saving yourself for the league games. Birmingham obviously sucks. Taft (2-3) goes up against equally underachieving Granada Hills, who is also 2-3.

Daily News Article Gives Bercovici Update
Even after getting the knife twisted in his back this weekend in the Ventura County Star – who pointed out that Westlake is doing just fine without him, with Nick Isham as their full time starting QB – Bercovici is remaining upbeat about ever taking the field for Taft, according to this Daily News article:
After being declared ineligible by the City Section last week because of an “athletically motivated transfer” after arriving from Westlake High, quarterback Michael Bercovici of Taft of Woodland Hills remains upbeat and hopeful he will be cleared through the appeals process.
“I really enjoy Taft, and the team has welcomed me. I’m having a lot of fun here,” Bercovici said. “I’m doing everything I can to be part of the football team, and as of right now I’m just practicing with the team. I think everything should be fine in the end. I just want to help the team.”
Taft coach Matt Kerstetter said additional paperwork substantiating Bercovici’s transfer has been forwarded to the City Section, and Kerstetter expects a decision soon.
Maybe the coach is right and things will work out for Bercovici to play. But, it remains to be seen that Bercovici didn’t switch schools just because he wasn’t going to be starting at Westlake. Which, he obviously did. Did I just say that out loud?

Daily News Girls Tennis Article Features Samantha Jacobs of El Camino Real
Came across this very detailed Daily News article about the girls tennis programs at El Camino Real and Reseda High Schools, that features two friends and rivals – Samantha Jacobs at ECR and Alexandra Tallas at Reseda.
Longtime friends and USTA tournament doubles partners outside of their West Valley League rivalry, Jacobs and Tallas, a junior, are two of the City’s elite players.
Great article and worth the read.
